Is there a cost to attend Summer Academy?
There is no cost to students who are invited to attend. Breakfast and lunch are provided.
Where is Summer Academy?
Host schools are selected each year from throughout DPS. We ensure that locations are available in all regions across the district. Our program for 9th graders is hosted at University of Denver.
Is transportation provided?
Transportation is provided for students who are eligible based on district guidelines. Distance is calculated from the student’s home address to the nearest Summer Academy location. You will be notified if your student is eligible for bus service.
How are students selected?
ELA students are invited to Summer Academy based on their results on the ACCESS for ELs assessment. In addition, students entering K-3 who are reading significantly below grade level are invited.
My student is not in the ELA program. Why was he/she invited?
Summer Academy includes a program for students entering K-3 who are reading significantly below grade level based on their DRA/EDL2 assessment scores. Students who attend this program have demonstrated significant progress in reading and writing over the course of the Academy. Attendance is one of the best ways to make sure that students are ready to participate at their grade level when school resumes in the fall.
What are the dates / times for Summer Academy?
The dates for 2016-2017 Summer Academy are weekdays, June 12 – July 7. There will be no school on July 3 or 4. The Summer Academy program is a half day, either 8:15 – 12:15 or 9:15 – 1:15. Start times vary depending on school site. Selected host schools have partnered with organizations to provide extended day programs; these are optional and offered only to students assigned to those host schools.
How are students assigned to Summer Academy host schools?
Students are assigned to Summer Academy host schools based on proximity to their home school, not their school of choice (if applicable).
Can my student’s brother or sister attend?
