DPS Language Allocation GuidelinesElementary ELA-EClick on the ELA-E Elementary Language Guidelines link for the Guideline document. All ELA-E classrooms have a designated ELD block. Students are grouped and regrouped (vertical and/or horizontal grade levels) based on linguistic instructional needs, which includes listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Teachers use the DPS ELD curriculum (that includes Avenues) to differentiate instruction to address the linguistic and transitioning needs of ELLs. Students are grouped by grade level and/or language level following the Avenues Program with adaptations necessary to meet their listening, speaking, reading and writing needs.

ELA Teacher Qualification Requirements ELA Teachers are required to complete four courses of study within the first two years of being designated as ELA teachers. The courses are comprised of information about the history of bilingual education, English language development, sheltered instruction and language and literacy acquisition. The specific requirement of ELA qualification can be found in the ELA Teacher Qualification Guidelines web link. ELA-S teachers are required to pass the SLP exam as well as complete all ELA qualification requirements by November 1st of the stipend year in order to receive the ELA-S Stipend. The ELA-S stipend is paid in July of the completed school year. Guidelines for the ELA-S Stipend can be found in the ELA-S Stipend web link.
Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) Parents and DPS staff are welcome to attend monthly Parent Advisory Committe (PAC) meetings held at school sites around the district. Meeting times and locations are posted on the PAC Website.
Translation Services The Communications Department provides Translation and Interpretation services to schools in Spanish, Vietnamese and Arabic. Visit the Translation Services web link for more information.
