DPS ELA Program Schools

English language learners are provided services through either a transitional native language instruction (TNLI) model or an English as a Second Language (ESL) model.  Components of the transitional native language instruction model include native language instruction in Spanish, supported English content instruction, and English language development.  Components of the ESL model include supported English content instruction and English language development.  Click here to view a glossary defining the different ELA Program Models [pdf].

During the 2008-2009 school year, 81 elementary schools, 11 middle schools and 6 high schools will provide ELA program services in the Denver Public Schools.  The kind of services provided at each school are determined by the number of English language learners at the school.
